Classic American Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients

• 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 tsp baking soda
• 1 tsp fine sea salt
• 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
• 3/4 cup granulated white sugar
• 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
• 2 large eggs, room temperature
• 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
• 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined. Set aside.
3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together with an electric mixer on medium-high speed for 3 to 4 minutes until the mixture is pale, light, and fluffy.
4. Add the eggs one at a time to the butter mixture, beating well after each addition. Add the vanilla extract and mix for another 30 seconds until fully incorporated.
5. Reduce the mixer speed to low and gradually add the flour mixture in three additions, mixing just until no dry streaks remain. Do not overmix.
6. Fold in the chocolate chips with a rubber spatula until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart to allow for spreading.
8. Bake one sheet at a time on the center rack for 9 to 11 minutes, until the edges are golden brown but the centers still look slightly underdone and soft.
9. Remove from the oven and let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes — they will firm up as they cool. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely or serve warm.
