Watermelon agua fresca is a refreshingly light Mexican beverage that captures summer in a glass with sweet, juicy melon balanced by bright lime and a whisper of mint. The simple blend of fresh fruit, cold water, and a touch of sugar creates something far more elegant than it sounds, perfect for hot afternoons or as a palate cleanser at dinner. Make this crowd-pleasing drink whenever you need something naturally sweet, hydrating, and utterly thirst-quenching.
Jump to recipeAdd the cubed watermelon to a blender and blend on high speed until completely smooth and liquefied, about 30-45 seconds.
Strain the watermelon puree through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher, pressing on the solids with a spatula to extract all the juice. Discard the pulp.
Add the cold water, fresh lime juice, sugar, and sea salt to the pitcher. Stir vigorously until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Taste and adjust sweetness or lime juice as needed. The flavor should be light, refreshing, and not overly sweet.
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld and the agua fresca to chill thoroughly.
Stir well before serving over ice in tall glasses. Garnish each glass with fresh mint leaves and a lime wheel.
